About ETL facilities and equipment

The Educational Technology Lab (ETL) computer lab has 25 Windows computers and 12 Macs available for use.  They are available for use any time that there is no class in the lab.  We also have 2 scanner stations in the lab available for use, one Windows, and one Mac.  There are instructions posted near the scanners on how to use them and staff is available whenever the lab is open if you need additional help.  There is a temporary folder setup on all of the lab machines for you to temporarily store your work.  When the computer is restarted, everything on the hard drive is lost.  If you are unable to take your work home with you please use the available temp folder.

The ETL also operates the TeraHash Computing Center, located in the west campus. The THCC sporting state-of-the-art computation clustsers to analyze multi-level hierarchical linear and non-linear modeling, complex cryptologic algorithms, and other algorithm of interest in the psychometric analysis.

Rules

A valid i-Card is required in order to use the lab. You will be denied entry if you do not have your i-Card.

The rules for the lab are as follows:

  • No food or gum
  • No drinks
  • No cellphones
  • Please limit the amount of noise in the lab to create a better study environment
  • Do NOT unplug any cables or attempt to connect any cables in the lab to your personal laptop or other devices.  This will cause a lot of problems for the lab and may cause the internet to go down for the lab.

Lost and Found

There is a lost and found in the lab.  High profile items like keys, IDs, and USB devices are stored in the ETL server room.  Please ask staff for assistance if you are trying to locate a high profile item.  Low profile items such as clothing, ear buds, etc. are stored in a red bin in the lab.

Instructional use

For classes, we have two large projectors available in the lab.  These are connected to a separate Windows computer that the instructor can use to teach the class.  There are separate remotes available to turn each projector on and the staff are more than happy to show instructors how to turn the projectors on and off during normal operating hours.

During classes and meetings, the no food, no gum, and no drink policies should still be enforced.  Also, if you class/meeting ends after ETL's normal hours or on a weekend you will need to ensure that all doors are closed all the way.  Finally, if your class/meeting is beginning after normal hours or on a weekend you will need to ensure that you have a key from the operations office upstairs (3335).

Lecture Recording

The lab is also setup to utilize the Blackboard Class Recording system provided by the ACCC.  The lab is able to record the output of the instructor’s computer, document camera, a connected laptop, a wireless microphone, and more.  All of this footage and the corresponding audio can be uploaded to blackboard so that students are able to re-watch lectures later on.  For more details about implementation feel free to ask ETL staff on how to setup blackboard to record your class.
